Climbing Wall by George

2007 by Jack G

In the morning, which was fairly warm, a group of people went climbing on the climbing wall.

The group who went climbing were with Carl (the instructor), the wall was inside.  It was very high and apart from the foot and hand holds it was quite slippy.

The climbing wall was also very confusing, because you did not know where to put your hands and feet.  You had to wear a helmet, a harness and a rope.  There was a smaller climbing wall that you did not need to wear a rope to do it.  The smaller wall was to do while you were waiting for your turn on the big one. Under the small wall there was a thick mat.

There was also climbing pyramid that lead to another wall; you did need a rope for this.

I think the climbing wall was a challenging but extremely fun task.  I was not scared because Carl had the other end of the rope.

Jack.F. said that was a brilliant activity and everyone agrees with him!

The coach took half an hour  to get to White Hough outdoor education centre. First there was one of  the instructors  called Carl .

He was with us all day but first we played a warm up game called biggest to smallest and what  number is on your door . Dragon and Unicorn were a  team and Phoenix and Garnish were a team. Dragon and Unicorn went caving  and climbing  first. When we had finished  we went for lunch then swapped round .

Then phoenix and gnash and so Amanda split us up I was in   Rena group, first

We played helicopter signal. We could not do it because we didn’t work as a team work and 2.00 we met back and then Carl said can you get in to partners me and James we where asked to find all the blue ones and yellow ones and when it had finished it and it took half an hour to get back.

Here is What Peter B Thought

Years 5 were going to Whitehough.

The coach took about half an hour to get to Whitehough.

When we got there we met our instructor Carl. He talked to us about the safety rules.

Then he split us into two groups Phoenix and Ganesh Dragon and Unicorn.

Phoenix and Ganesh were problem solving first. And Dragon and Unicorn were climbing and caving with Mrs Smith and Carl. And then we did some problem solving to win some funny money. Both teams got some funny money. And then

We all went to do our activiles. I had good fun jumping through the web but not hurting my belly . Saul thought it was funny and so did I.

After we did some more problem solving. It was diner . I had some sandwiches and A biscuit . And then we went to do some caving and climbing caving was fun but dark. And after we did climbing Saul was very brave on the wall and after we all did some Orienteering in padres. After we all went back to the coach.

It took half an hour to get to Whitehough by coach. At first class 5 did warm up with Carl the instructor .

To try and win some funny money. Then we did problem solving. You  had to pick up the sparko without it touching the  ground. You have everything you need. After that we hade to put on a blindfold to  do a course and people had direct you.

Problem solving was fantastic. After that we had lunch we did climbing and caving. With Carl  and Mrs Smith. Carl did climbing  Mrs smith  did caving  you had to wear a helmet  and a torch  on  the helmet. When we got ready for caving we had to put on a helmet. At first we had all the hatches open. After we had the first go then we had the second go. Some of us had the hatches closed.

Then we did climbing with Carl. You had to have a harness and you were on a piece of rope. Carl was at the other end. Then you had the to go on the other climbing wall. Well you was waiting you had to try to do this other one Your  foot was not aloud to put your foot over a dinosaur thing. Before  lunch we did a course  you had to wear a blindfold and you had to go through a tunnel. Then we did caving  with Carl the instructor. we had to go trough it. There was  a tight  squeeze.

Whitehough is an outdoor education centre, which is great fun!

We, class 5 came to school like normal, but in old clothes not in school uniform. Mrs Smith took the register like usual and then Mrs Smith said

“Rena is the coach here yet”.

Once Rena had come back Rena replied

“Yes Mrs Smith the coach has come”, and then went back down the stairs again.

“Everybody come and line up” said Mrs Smith.

Once everybody was on the coach it set off. I heard a voice but it wasn’t Mrs Smith and it wasn’t Rena the voice was getting louder and louder and louder the figure was getting closer it was only Amanda. Once the coach was getting faster time flew bye like the wind. The seats of the coach wear very snuggly and cosy.

Once everybody was off the coach it drove away in to the distance. The first thing once we got off the coach was Mrs Smith’s voice she said

“Whitehough begins here everybody “ quite a lot of people looked confused especially Jimmy.

“Where walking to Whitehough as our first activey” I said to Jimmy. Jimmy understood now. As we walked along the giant hill I could hear the leaves beneath  my feet. As we got higher up the hill my legs began to get stiffer and stiffer.

Once we were at whitehough a man came to greet us. The man was called Carl. He  was the instructor. Carl was wearing a purple waterproof jacket.

The first thing Carl did was tell us the helph and safely rules. Then Carl talked about the other things like the hill we just walked up.

When everybody had finished the activities we all had lunch most of the people had anity dots dinners.

Evreybody loved Whitehough even the people who were scared.

Whitehough by Saul

The coach took class 5 to Whitehough took half an hour was very comfy. Whitehough is a outdoor Education Centre at the bottom of pendle hill.

The first challenge was to walk up pendle hill with Mrs smith, Rena and Amanda. Then we did warm-ups with Carl are instructor.

Group 1 did some problem solving with Rena and Amanda, which involved put 3 barrels on top of each other, the spider web, and there is a course you need to do blindfolded and there is one were you have to get a bottle out of a barrel with just rope but you can’t get or close or let it touch the ground or you fail.

While group 2 do climbing and caving. Sophie Lally said “The cave is scary but once you get in its fine” it seems that Sophie L likes the cave but don’t we all.” In the cave tight squeeze” I said  and that is very true, and the climbing wall is 40feet high! Some people love it while others hate it like me. Peter said this” I love the climbing wall” but others may disagree.

And finally the best part of the day lunch time. We had a special room to eat a dinner. Were you could to the toilet and hang your coat up. Most people had Auntie Dots dinners I did as well.”auntie Dots dinners are the best in the world” said Louise most of us like Auntie Dots dinners.

Now group 1 and 2 changed around. Group 1 went caving and climbing and group 2 went problem solving. We do exactly the same.

Orienteering is where you have a map and coloured flags. They were yellow and purple. One is a competition and Oliver and Luke won which took 8 minutes and 45 seconds.

Now Carl has blown the whistle and its time to come home. We are walking down the hill and now we are getting on the coach for home.

Early Mornings For Class 5 by Harry

On a Tuesday morning Class 5 get dressed into their P.E kit at school and get on the yellow bus and set off to Todmorden Leisure Centre to play tennis.

When Class 5 get to the leisure centre with Mrs Smith and Rena they warm up by running from one end of the sports hall to the other.  Then class 5 get into groups and play doubles with a sponge ball or a tennis ball.

Mrs Smith said ”Class 5 are so good that they may even play at Wimbledon when they are older.”

Eventually, when our fun lesson has finished, Class 5 collect the rackets and set off back to school.

Caving at Whitehough

Wonderful Whitehough

In the cave it was dark, gloomy and a very tight squeeze because you had to squeeze through small gaps and at the same time you had had to wiggle on your stomach.

You had to wear helmets with lights attached on to them.

For some people it was quite scary but they did it. A lot of people thought it was great.

Also in the cave you had to twist and turn a lot. Above the cave were hatches. you could have them open or closed the people who were brave had them closed but the people who were not very brave had them open. And  also the rocks in the cave were called lime stones.

Peter, Toni Laura and Josef say it was the best activity.

When I was in the cave I had the hatches open because I was a little bit scared and in part of it you had to push your body to onto a different floor it was very tricky.

Last Thursday class 5 went to Whiteough. In the morning we did problem solving. (But we don’t need to hear about that) After lunch we did the climbing wall. It was tall and had little pictures of people on it. I was very scared. We had turns going up it. I was 5th; halfway up the wall I didn’t know which foot hole to stand on.

There were three walls, a small wall, a big wall and the pyramid. All of them were great fun and a good challenge.

Everybody had a go most of us completed them. Luke made it up the wall faster than the speed of light and so did James. Both of them were confident and so was I. I made it up the big one and the small one but I didn’t make it up the pyramid.

Oliver said, “It was absolutely brilliant” and everyone agrees!

 Orienteering

After lunch the whole class did orienteering this is when you have a map, which you have to read to find control tags, which were spread about the whole of Whitehough the tags were on buildings, tree stumps, car parks and fields.
