April Newsletter 2008
Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday.
Illness
I am sorry to have to report that Miss Campbell is quite ill at the moment and will be away from school for a while. I am sure you will all join with the staff in sending our best regards to her for a speedy recovery.
We have also had a case of German measles (Rubella) in school this week. This is a very mild disease unless you are Pregnant. It shows itself as a rash and remains contagious for 5 days after the rash appears. If you are worried consult your Doctor.
Warm Weather
In preparation for the warmer weather (hopefully!), please make sure your child has a water bottle at school everyday, wears sun lotion and has cover for their arms. Sun hats are available from the office (£2.50). Please also remember that we are not allowed to apply sun cream but we are happy for you to send your children with some sun cream wipes which they can apply themselves. Please also remember to tie hair up and only stud earrings are to be worn in school. Also remember to check that uniform has your child’s names clearly visible on the label.
SAT’s Week
A reminder that SAT’s will be held the week beginning 12th May, these are important tests so please ensure your child is in school this week.
Nursery Places
If your child is eligible to start Nursery in September and you would like to come and have a look around our Foundation Stage, please phone on 812787 or call into the school office. We will be happy to make an appointment for you to come and meet the teachers and children and see what exciting things we get up to!
Walking Bus News
Our Walking Bus is still operating each morning on the route from Vale. If you wish your child to come to school with this group, or need more information, please let us know and we will make the necessary arrangements. A dedicated mobile number is available and should be used to inform the leader of any absences / pick ups. The phone will be switched on at 8.00am each morning for 1 hour only. The number is:- 07852 866964 and should not be used for any other purpose.
We are also on the lookout for volunteers to help us with the Walking Bus, so if you have the spare time in the morning to help, please let us know as it would be much appreciated! Even one day a week would be a great help!
Also a quick reminder to those who already use the walking bus: please ensure that children are waiting at the designated stops to join the bus. These are Holmehouse Road, Cornholme Post Office and Bobbin Mill Flats. If children join at any other point along the route it can cause unnecessary confusion.
Cornholme After School Activity Club
This is now up and running staffed by members of our support staff. The costs are £3.00 from 3.30 to 5.30. They have planned lots of activities to do each day and a letter will soon be sent out to let everyone know what they are. However, if your child wants to come and relax in front of a film, play with the Nintendo Wii, do their homework or read a book then they are quite welcome to do so! For more information or a booking form please call into the school office or phone 812787
British Heart Foundation ‘Jump off!’
This is set to take place on Thursday 17th of April. Sponsor forms and more information will be sent out soon, so get practising your skipping!
The School Office
Just to let everyone know that there have been a few changes in the running of the school office.
Mrs Tregellas has reached a significant birthday and has taken the opportunity to cut her work load. Although she will still be at school a couple of days a week, you are unlikely to see her in the office.
Mrs O’Gorman and Miss Carty will share the job of running the school office. I am sure you will bear with them and wish all three ladies the best as they settle into their new roles
