MacMillian Coffee Morning

A BIG THANK YOU to you all for supporting us last week – we raised £264 for the charity and £150 for school from the tombola. Click here to see the photos.

School Uniform

Photographs

Sorry for the delay in re stocking our supplies – they are expected any day.

The school photographer will be visiting us on the morning of Monday 15th October. All pupils MUST go to class for registration when the bell rings at 9.00 and the teachers will then release any with brothers and / or sisters for family group photographs.

Those of you with pre-school children are very welcome to bring them in to be included in family groups but you should wait in the hall and your older children will be brought to join you.

Here are some wonderful examples of what to expect:

Dinner Money

and

School Meals

Thank you all for continuing to support our school kitchen by encouraging your children to have school meals – and a big thank you too for paying for the meals each Monday. It is important that you continue to do this because staff are employed specially that day for the purpose. Please remember to seal cash in a clearly marked envelope or write your child’s name on the back of cheques if you pay that way. We ask that you do not try to give cash to staff when you meet them in the playground etc as it can cause confusion.

Auntie Dot's Dinners

Absences

If your child will not be attending school, you must inform us by letter if you know in advance ( dentist etc) or by phone before 9.30 (illness).

If you do not , the office staff have to make contact to ensure the children are safe at home which is both time consuming, and frustrating for all – especially when phones are switched off and we cannot locate the children.

All attendances / absences are recorded on a computerised system and those without reason are shown to be unauthorised (truancy). Education Welfare Officers visit regularly to monitor these records and usually follow up persistent absences with home visits which may even lead to prosecution.

House Fire

General Election

As many of you will be aware, due to a house fire which caused extensive damage but thankfully no injuries, Albert Reid our Walking Bus volunteer helper has been allocated emergency accommodation for himself and the 4 children for the time being.

Local groups are already organising fundraising events and clearance work will start next week. When the full extent of the damage is known and Albert determines the things he has to replace we may be asking for donations / holding a fundraising event ourselves but in the meantime we send him our sympathy and ask you support any activity which is organised.

Please also make sure that your smoke alarms are working or have some installed if you haven’t already.

There is talk of a General Election being called during November – if this happens then school will have to be closed that day. I will keep you informed!

Next month’s newsletter will give a list of events / activities we will be organising in the run up to the Christmas holiday – as always we are going to be busy!   On the reverse of this newsletter is a holiday list and as always I would like to ask that you make every effort to arrange your holidays to coincide with school holidays and when the dates are announced for the SATs tests you make sure that your child is at school.

If you use the internet for shopping then take a look at our new webshop, www.buy.at/cornholmeschool. It contains lots of high street shops including

Marks and Spencers, Early Learning Centre, Thorntons chocolates and many more. If you buy something through our webshop then the retailers give us commission on whatever you buy! There is no extra cost to you, in fact you can often save money because of fabulous online discounts! All money raised through our webshop will be put towards our school fund which helps to pay for things like school trips and parties.
